The Substitutes is een 'work in progress' van Bram Nijssen, grafisch ontwerper, en Marcel van den Berg, dichter. 'The S' bestaat uit een reeks van fictieve zelfportretten in de vorm van negen mixed-media multiples: ze bevatten onder meer poëzie, collages, en (sculpturale) objecten. Gedurende het project kruipen we in de huid van de volgende personen: Silvia Plath, Daniel Johnston, Boudewijn Büch, Peter Sellers, Virginia Woolf, B.S. Johnson, Michael Jackson, Fernando Pessoa en Andy Kaufman. De multiples zullen in 2012 worden samengebracht in een verzamelbox in gelimiteerde oplage.

The Substitutes is a work in progress by Bram Nijssen, graphic designer, and Marcel van den Berg, poet. 'The S' is a series of fictitious self-portraits in the form of nine mixed-media multiples, they include poetry, collages, and (sculptural) objects. During the project we assume the role of the following persons: Sylvia Plath, Daniel Johnston, Boudewijn Büch, Peter Sellers, Virginia Woolf, B.S. Johnson, Michael Jackson, Fernando Pessoa and Andy Kaufman. The multiples will be brought together in a limited edition box set in 2012.
